She tended the ill by day but at night prayed for a deliverer, wondering if escape was possible. Then he came, disguised as a lowly, wounded worker.
Their meeting was only the beginning. Having to escape the guards, travel by canoe in a storm, and cross miles of perilous Mexican cartel country to get to the ocean where the Saints could pick them up was their goal. Falling in love was their reward.

When I started this book, it was going just the way I wanted it to. Plenty of action, some romance and a great blending of each in the plot.Then the Saints got Miriam back in the United States and it started to PLOD. I was almost bored because, honestly, I want more action mixed with the lovemaking. And it seemed to me that was all the last third of the book was--sex-- until we hit the final climactic event. While I generally enjoyed the book, I was disappointed with the last part.

Unique storyline, romance, fast paced. Ending not as believable, but still romantic and action packed. Few editing errors rare for this author but not distracting. Wish she put her books on kindle unlimited to reach more readers. Highly recommend.
Cam is the ultimate protector. He now works for Saint security after his cover was blown saving previous book heroines from a street gang he'd infiltrated. His latest case is going incognito to Mexico to rescue nurses kidnapped from a Red Cross mission by a drug cartel. As a large, bilingual Mexican American, the one time juvenile delinquent and former cop is perfect for the role. He's never failed in a mission, but he will need all his skill and some luck to successfully complete this one. Mariam is one of the nurses. The sister of a fellow investigator she hopes her brother can somehow find her. She gets Cam instead. Complete with suspense, mystery and action this story is also about friends and trust. I appreciated that once Cam overcame some poor assumptions, he was steadfast in helping Mariam. She is brave in the face of a violent and terrible situation. She maintains her integrity and does not succumb to coercion. Together this couple makes mature and steadfast clearly sexy and brave. The challenges they overcome are done through clear communication and a connection of trust that makes you accept the love and need that develops for them. This is a story wrought with real issues facing our world today, but with the hope that good people can win the day. Loved it all.
Camillo Perez aka Cam used to live his life on the wrong side of the law when he was young. When he is unexpectedly saved from a situation by following a request by chance. From then on he changes his life and becomes a man who he and the family he loves can be proud of. He now works for the Saints Protection & Investigation services. He is one who hasn't found anyone special since he turned his life around and doesn't know if it is for him with the job he has. He then is called for a special mission to save a friend of the companies sister who has been kidnapped and needs to be rescued and he is the most qualified for the job. When he sees the sister's picture he is instantly taken with her and the mission to save her is one that has just become more of a personal reason than just a new mission.
Miriam Delaro is a nurse and starting to feel dissatisfied with her current work at the hospital and looking for something more. She decides to go to Mexico, where a huge earthquake hit, to assist with Red Cross to the disapproval but acceptance of her family. While there she and a few other nurses get kidnapped by a drug cartel to help with the wounded. Now she has to try to keep safe and hope her brother sends help. When Cam arrives and she understands that he is the help sent she is grateful but also finds herself attracted to her hero. As they make their escape, they also start to fall while trying to stay alive and out of the reach of the cartel.
I really enjoyed this story. I loved the hero Cam who was alpha, sweet, and really grew in this story. I loved the heroine Miriam who was sweet, strong and I related to her search in finding what made her happy. This was low angst romance relationship which I always love but had a good story and I liked how they got to know each other. It is on the insta love side but they still get to know each other. Very enjoyable read.
I have read this book twice. I first read it with my KU subscription and then I actually bought it. It is super rare for me to purchase a KU book. Sadly there isn't a lot of fantastic offerings available with KU. I read a ton and it is a way to keep reading without breaking the bank. However, this is a really fun book.
The beginning and middle of this book is an adventure. Cam is a sweetheart and a fantastic hero. The author had a really strong vision of Cam and I could picture him physically which is sometimes hard to do. I liked Miriam. She was a smart heroine. Unfortunately, I have been reading books with weak, irritating female leads lately. I can safely say that Miriam is not weak and stupid. I really liked her mature outlook. For example, I really thought she would pitch a fit when it was obvious that she was the only one that could go with Cam. While she didn't like it she understood the reasoning.
The adventure did come to a grinding halt when they got back to the states. That was disappointing but luckily the novel picked up a bit towards the end. Regardless both Cam and Miriam were fun to read.
This author does have a talent in writing softer heroes while still keeping them Alpha enough if that makes sense. Her heroes don't beat around the bush. They are open, honest, and verbal. She also makes the instant connection believable. In today's romance, the MCs seem to fall for each other immediately. 99% of the time it is completely unbelievable. BUT this author pulls it off time and time again. Kudos to her. Another author that can do this is Cambria Hebert in her 'take it off' series. If you haven't read any of those books, I would recommend them.
I have read each of the Saints and the previous series Alvarez (I think that is the name). My favorites are this one and I liked Gabe. The heroine in Gabe is a bit too perfect but still a sweetheart.
